Jury Member: Liza Daen

Liza Daen

Today is the last day you can enter for the Smut Marathon 2018, and also time for the last jury member to introduce herself. You have already ‘met’ Tiggs, Marc van Lier, Molly Moore and Michael Knight, and this week you meet Liza Daen. She is a Dutch erotic writer and a leader in the Dutch erotic community. Besides Dutch, she has written several stories in English and has been to Eroticon in 2016 and 2017.

The erotic writers marathon of EWA Nederland has captivated me for the last three years. The first year, 2015, I won (yeahoo!). The second year I came in second and third year I was out in the semi-finals. You could conclude that I was getting worse, but I think this was not the case. The competitors got better and better, especially the ones that participated several times. From my own experience I know participating means to learn, to sweat, to think out of your comfortable box, to challenge yourself and to develop stamina, discipline and skills. The comments of the jury have helped me understand the style and essence of my own writing and brought me to another level. That is exactly the reason why I felt honored to be able to do the same for my English speaking colleague writers.

My name is Liza Daen, Dutch by vocation. Although I have a regular job, writing is my life. I have published several books (Lustkronieken part 1 and part 2 – chronicles of Lust), magazines (Afrodite), published a series of short erotic stories in the Dutch Cosmopolitan Online and started an online publishing company for the Dutch erotic writer. In 2018 a small book with translated erotic short stories will be published in the U.K.

I am a strict judge. Although I am not a native speaker, my English is good enough to notice grammatical and spelling mistakes. Furthermore, I want a story to be hot, exciting and dramatic, with real people and emotions (even when it is fiction – I want it to be believable and coherent). The storyline should reveal tension and most of all: the story must captivate the reader and leave him / her in awe, horny and in turmoil.
Of course I will be very strict whether the writer has followed the assignment.

So, dear contestants: give it your outmost best. Give your story time to develop,: write, reread, sleep on it, reread again, put it away, reread again, think about it, rewrite, edit and keep challenging yourself. Don’t take anything for granted, It will be worth it!

You can read some of my stories on the English section of my website, follow me on twitter @lizadaen or visit my facebook-pages Liza Daen and Liza Daen erotist.
