Jury Member: Molly Moore

Today is the LAST day you can enter for the Smut Marathon 2019. Tonight at midnight (Amsterdam time) the entries close, and a week from today the participants will receive their first assignment. So go on, quickly sign up now you still can! While you do so, I will introduce the last jury member (the others are Bee, Jaime Mortimer, Charlie Powell and Chris McClennan) for this year’s marathon: Molly Moore. As you all might remember, Molly was also a judge for the Smut Marathon 2018. I wanted ‘fresh blood’ in the jury, but there was just no way I couldn’t have Molly on the jury again!

Molly Moore“When Rebel told me her plans for the Smut Marathon I was really excited. Many moons ago when it was run by Alison Tyler I took part and managed to get right through to the final. It was a really valuable writing experience and one that resulted in more than one piece of writing that ended up being accepted into an anthology. This time though I won’t be taking part as a contestant but as a judge. For some reason or other Rebel has deemed me qualified to hold such a position of responsibility and I am honoured and excited by the prospect.”

That was how I started my introduction to you last year and I am delighted that when I told Marie I would like to stay on as a judge again for another year she happy to allow me to do so. So we meet again Smut Marathon….

When I decided to be a judge last year I will admit that I really wasn’t aware of quite how much work it would be. Not only do I have to read all the entries at least twice but then I have to take some time to write some meaningful feedback to the authors. In the early rounds it was just not possible to write feedback for over 80 pieces and so I picked out just some but as the numbers fell away I invested time in writing something for every entry. It was really tough at times because the standard was so incredibly high that it could be so easy to write how much you love them all but that is not going to help anyone improve or learn and so I tried to be helpful and constructive. I hope I achieved that and will try my hardest to continue that in 2019.

I will say that I learned a great deal from being a judge. Not just in how it made me think about giving constructive feedback but also gave me much food for thought in what makes a good story; How to use dialogue well, surprise endings, fantasy settings, what is and is not sexy (very subjective) and what makes a story erotic. I hope that my own story writing has developed as a result and I looking forward to learning more over this next year. I may even try and complete the tasks myself just as a writing exercise. We shall see if time prevails or not!

I love images. Anyone who knows me blog will know that I am a very visually driven but I also love words and I think a great writing is when the story turned into images in your mind as you read it and truly great writing is when those images stay with your afterwards. If you paint me a picture with your words then I am going to like it. I want to feel a story, taste it, smell it, hear it, know it and if you can do that in a short flash fiction piece for me then you will have captured my attention and in the case of the Smut Marathon my votes.

So what of me?

I am married to the best husband ever (I realise other people have one of these also but this one is my bestest). We met online 7 years ago which led to a long distance relationship that spanned the Atlantic ocean which finally came to an end when he moved the UK and we got married. We are in 24/7 D/s marriage and I am the s to his D. I am also Mum to an 19 and 15 year old and we have one crazy cat called Rita.

I am the author of Molly’s Daily Kiss where I blog about sex, kink, D/s and other related topics. I am a self portrait artist and 95% the images on my blog are taken by me. I also run Sinful Sunday, Kink of the Week and Elust as well as a number of other smaller projects all of which you can find links to on my main site. I am now also the custodian of the annual Top 100 Sex Blogs list and if not is not enough last year I took over the running of Eroticon alongside my husband Michael and Girl on the Net. So you can probably see why I decided that I might not have time for a new writing challenging but I will definitely be making time for a new reading challenge.
